Trackpad & Keyboard not working

Hello,
My Macbook Pro’s Keyboard and trackpad simply stop working at random moments while in use. Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad still work fine, but this isn’t a fix.

Resetting PRAM doesn’t work.
Restarting the computer repeats the process, but is a temporary fix to the problem.
This also means that the issue isn’t the connection, so I am unconvinced replacing the parts would work.

Are there any other troubleshooting options to figure out why the system is failing? Thanks.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Enable the keyboard viewer to see if the keys are firing.

At this point it sounds like you need a new keyboard. Spillage liquid and solids could have messed you up. Time to replace the keyboard or the uppercase assembly.

This series has a much more serviceable keyboard as its screwed in! Sadly its a ton of screws. But the keyboard is quite cheap MacBook Pro Unibody (A1278) Keyboard here’s the guide you’ll need to follow to get to it MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Late 2011 Upper Case Replacement as well as a new trackpad MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2009-Mid 2012) Trackpad

In truth, it was a last resort for me to replace the parts, considering they were working fine before I replaced the logic board, and still work fine if I restart the computer.

But it certainly won't hurt to try.

Thanks for the pointer. I'll be back if the issue persists. Thanks!

I'm back.

The keyboard that was sent turned out to be defective. Random keys would type on their own in the middle of me typing, most noticeably the equals sign and the spacebar.

Having reset pram on that keyboard, and also switched back to this current one, I can confirm that the keyboard that was delivered was the problem.

I am rather frustrated at this news as I had spent hours disassembling and reassembling my computer suspecting that there was some other issue or need of cleaning that would arise to fix it, to no avail.

@realhittman - So you are now working with a fresh keyboard?

by

@danj It is not. I placed my old keyboard back in, it's the one i am using now.

Frankly, I would rather endure periodic computer freezes than constantly activating random keys.

by

@realhittman - Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Maybe its worth looking at getting an uppercase assembly while a bit more expensive its a lot easier to replace MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Early 2011-Mid 2012) Upper Case $80 USD is not bad (Grade-B)
