Review this guide: iMac 27" 2017 Blade SSD Replacement its a bit of work and you will need to use the correct SSD either an Apple or OWC unit. I don’t recommend using M.2 SSD’s with the cheap adapters as they are more trouble than they are worth.

Hello, im finally decided to do it, but if i take out both my old hdd and nvme ssd and install only new OWC ssd, will my imac recognize this new ssd "out of the box", or should i format this new ssd before putting it in my computer (or do anything else with it?)?

@Николай Осколков -You need to upgrade to Mojave at least so the systems firmware is updated so the firmware can support the newer APFS file system as you need Mojave for the updated SSD driver.
