Usually this means that the battery in the key fob needs to be replaced.

the battery was replaced, bur the red key is still there.

if it is a keyless start it may be the signal from the key to the car is weak or there is a problem in the keyless system, not sure about mazda but Toyota and a couple of other models have that,
