What do you have available right now? Do you have a projector or anything? Have you thought about using a conversion service? there are companies that do those things....just trying to clarify.

Okay, obviously you will need a projector to play your film, a video camera (not sure if a good webcam would work) and a capture card of some sort. It will depend on your computer and OS to see what capture card you would need as well as the software. There are of course commercial Telecine projectors available for a few thousand $$$ ;-) otherwise I would recommend a setup as shown here and a quick guide here Hope this gets you started in the right direction.

That's getting pretty Red Neck OT. The loss in quality would make it almost unacceptable. Maybe this link could give you some clues, or you can just throw lots of money at it and get the real stuff. http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/men...

I thought the setup shown by Lee Hazen on here http://photo.net/video-forum/003WXX was pretty decent. It all depends on what resources are available and how much money one got to spend

I like your suggestion. I've seen a great many high quality Telesync movies - most of them out of Russia. So if it is 8mm on a reel it can be accomplished with quality, done in the right setting with a quality camera and the audio is recorded directly from the source. Most people would never know it wasn't the original recording. If it is 8mm from a camcorder. You can hook the camcorder up to an ATI All-In-Wonder card for a PC for less than $90 USD, counting cables, remote and Express shipping to India off eBay. Depending on what AIW card you get you can hook it up to every imaginable source from camcorders to cable/dish and directly record from the source. The ATI AIW card comes in both the AGP and PCI flavors so you can find one that will work on modern PCs

While There's some good advice for building your own rig going on between oldturkey and mayer, if you're just doing a few, it's cheaper to just pay for them to be done as opposed to building an expensive and quality-variable setup. In the US there are a bunch of services which do it for a fairly small fee, however they mostly send it out to india to get it done cheaply and ship/upload it back. Since you're in india you can probably find locally some shops who will do it for at most a few thousand rupees.

I most certainly agree with you and suggested that in the original comment as well. I suppose this is more about the challenge of doing it, than the quality of the outcome. Sometimes, if all you got is duct tape....:-)
