"Battery was not detected" after installing iFixIt-supplied one

Block Image

I carefully removed the old, cleaned the case, and installed the new battery, but now the computer says “The battery was not detected Reference Code: PPT001”. I triple-checked the battery control connection, as well as the power connection to the battery itself, and everything appears correct.

Here is what it looks like:

Everything else on the laptop is working properly.

Is there any other test or diagnostic I can run, or should I return it?

I really hate to imagine removing this battery and replacing it. Before doing that, is there an easy way to test the new battery before I do the installation?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Take a tight picture of the small ribbon cable connections (both sides) so we can make sure its installed properly. Post them in your question (edit mode) Adding images to an existing question

@danj Thanks. I just posted a picture of the small ribbon cable connection.

Did you want both sides of the cable, while it's unplugged? Or one of it fully plugged in? If the latter, that's what I supplied. Thanks!

by

@djvanmaren - I suspect you got it half way its in your media manager box not posted here in your question

@danj Thanks for bugging me about the images.

I cannot seem to get the little cable to go any further into the connector.

make sure that little ribbon that goes over the battery connector is plugged in properly, I’ve had issues when it isn’t plugged in before.

Thanks, Hamish. It definitely is plugged in. I cannot get it in any further. See the image I just posted in my question.

Ultimately, it never worked, so I returned it to ifixit for a refund. I ended up having Apple replace the battery, which was ultimately a good value given the labor involved in removing the battery from this model!

That ribbon looked mangled

by

@strongbow - Looks fine by me. The uneven surface is the adhesive residuals from the cover tape not damage.

by

@danj not the tape, the two creases. Usually happens when using force and the ribbon gives.

by

@strongbow - I could see how a hard folded crease could be an issue these more wrinkled ones aren’t bad enough to damage the foil wires inside.
