Home button not working after disassembly on iPhone 8.

Hi all,

I bought an iPhone 8 off ebay with a cracked screen with the intention of repairing it.

Before I ordered any parts I wanted to take off the screen to verify nothing was missing inside the device.

I disconnected the battery and removed the screen and once I had verified all parts were there I reatached the same screen and battery.

However, after powering on the device I found that the home button was no longer working and I got a notification saying could not activate touch id on this iPhone. Before the button was working fine however touch id would not detect my finger.

I’ve tried to reseat the screen and cleaning the home button and connections with isopropyl alcohol, however this still does not fix the problem.

Upon visual inspection the home button looks fine however the interconnect cable where it connects to the logic board has a crease line on it (I’d be happy to attach photos if needed).

Does anyone have any ideas what may be the issue? More importantly do you think the home button will work with a new display?

Thanks,

Tom

This is a common problem after a screen removal. It is caused by a tiny tear in the home button flex. Replace the screen and your home button will be fine.
