I purchased a MacBook off eBay in hopes of repairing it, the description said the keyboard is buggy and types different characters other than the ones you have pressed. I was wondering if anyone could list the possible problems it could have that would result in such behavior.

This is most commonly caused by water damage and you have to replace the top case: MacBook Unibody (A1342) Upper Case
To test and isolate the problem, plug in an external USB keyboard and see if the problem persists.

Well it works with an external keyboard perfectly, and the mouse pad still works perfect. Im really worried about the logic board but nothing else is acting up. Do you think I'm safe as far as the logic board goes?
Cellers, why don't you post an answer with your suggestions they may fix the problem. Frankly I don't post all the possible solutions I know of on every question, I just try to give what I think is the most likely resolution. We're here to help the question asker not bicker with each other. If hooking up the external keyboard doesn't solve the problem, then I go in a different direction.
+ You are correct mayer I did not word that well. In my opinion resetting the pram and erasing the library files associated with the keyboard may solve the problem and should be attempted prior to replacing the upper case.
With the external working, I feel your very safe in just replacing Upper Case although you can try using it for internet and hooking up USB devices & firewire to test those ports.
