Installing WWAN card on WiFi (only) T495

I got a T495 for work, but it didn’t come preconfigured with cell connection. I opened up the bottom case and saw that it has the SIM port soldered to the board. Would I be able to install LENOVO’s WWAN card and antennas and be able to use the cellular connection? Or is this BIOS locked to not accept the WWAN connection?

Hi @cnusax ,

I don’t know if it will be blocked in BIOS, not having the correct antenna installed should be sufficient for it not to work.

Perhaps you can check if there are any user definable WWAN settings in BIOS that can be enabled etc. Updating the BIOS may also help.

You will need to replace the WLAN antenna with a WLAN/WWAN antenna. Click on Select Commodity > Antenna (6) and then search online using the part number only for the Antenna Kit for WWAN/WLAN, to get results for suppliers that suit you best. There are 3 to choose from but they seem to be interchangeable as they are all listed as substitutes for each other. Click on Select Commodity > Wireless WAN adapters (2) to find the part numbers for the WWAN adapter.

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop. Go to p.94 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the WLAN antenna. On p.95 it shows how to remove the WLAN/WWAN antenna so that you can see how it is installed.

Also here’s the WWAN drivers.

Hope that this is of some help and that you get it working OK.
