Screen Black & Fan Loud After Screen Fell Off

Hey!

I recently purchased the tools and supplies from iFixIt to replace the memory in my 2017 iMac. I replaced the memory, put the computer back together again, and reset the machine. Everything turned on and worked great. I left my house and came back a few hours later to see the screen had fallen off and was dangling, hanging only by the two cables that connect the screening to the motherboard. The screen was no cracked and did not hit anything when it fell, just dangling by the wires.

I pushed the screen back on and taped around the edges just to keep it in place. Since then, my iMac will no longer turn on. If I turn it on, the machine starts up, but the fan runs at FULL blast and the screen stays black. I’ve tried unplugging and replugging in all of the connections without any luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I don’t know if I need to replace the motherboard because of damaged pins or possibly just the screen?

Ouch! Not good, one or both could be damaged.

At this point I think you need to find an independent Mac repair shop to help you here. Hopefully the yank only damaged the logic board display connector which will need to be replaced (requiring micro-soldering and the needed part).
