Small portion of screen not working after replacement.

Hello: I replaced my screen. This is the 4th time the screen has been replaced though only the 2nd time I did it myself.

After reassembly, a portion of my screen will not respond to touch. (See portion of screen circled in red for the approximate area that will not work).

I ran into only one issue during the screen replacement: While taking out cable#3, I accidentally broke part of white plastic piece that holds the connection in place....the tab that locks it into place functions properly. Research on this site tells me cable #3 is not related to the touch screen.

I've disconnected and re-connected all three cables multiple times to try to solve this problem...no success.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike

Coco, usually when you have part of a touch screen that is not responding, it is the digitizer that is faulty. I found that when it is a connection error, that the whole touch is not working. If a certain region does not function, it's the digitizer. You might want to check with the vendor and see if you can get a replacement...

Hello,

It is very unlikely the digitizer is broken, if only the small circled area does not work.

Possible solutions:

1) Check the connectors, sometimes a simple thing such as a small piece of dirt or other substance can block the connector from working properly. What you can do is use a que-tip and 95%~ isotropy alcohol to try and clean the connectors.

2) If that does not work, insure you bought a 3GS digitizer. Often vendors may ship you the wrong touchscreen, and once "installed" only part of the screen will work. Check the connector, does it look like it matches the board?

3) If the above do not work, the digitizer is faulty. When you install them, be careful not to accidentally remove the black film border around the outside edge of the digi. If so, it can be very easy to damage the digi.

Hope this helps,

In addition, check the digitizer connector itself to make sure no glue or other objects are in it. Also make sure it is seated. That area is not a common area that is affected when digitizers are defective.

Thank you OldTurkey03 and XicoSolutions. I tried all suggestions above. Now the entire screen is not working. I have contacted the vendor to seek a replacement digitizer. I may just end up going and getting the new 4Gs.....

I received a replacement digitizer. After install, iPhone would not boot up. Uninstalled, reinstalled a second time. Now the entire screen is working. Thanks!
