Charging but not syncing

Hi, I've got a iPhone 3G which has had it's back cover replaced, now it doesn't sync or get detected by iTunes or computer Macbook or windows. but charges up.

Will replacing the dock connector solve this or is there any other possible problems?

Cheers.

simply? yes it should. I would try reconnecting and cleaning internal connector no.4 first, and checking all the pins in the external dock aren't dirty or damaged, change USB cord and port. If this is the old dock just transplanted then you may have damaged it..but usually it's a dirt problem. You'd be surprised at the pieces of paper that can be stuck on top of pins!
