iMac mid 2011 - 27 inch (Lines in in screen)

Hows it going everybody.

My IMac mid 2011 (27 inch) has been experiencing random fan noises/lines shooting directly down the center. Today when I try power on, it goes to the routine the apple loading screen then goes to a white screen - and thats it.

  • I tried a PRAM / SMC reset. It will not boot past the white screen.

I purchased this used in 2019 I’m unfamiliar with the history. Could this be the GPU? or possibly the HD / RAM?

If it is the GPU, will this replacement work? NVIDIA QUADRO K1100M 2GB Video Card GPU

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Apple didn’t use the NVIDIA Quadra K1100M GPU in any of the iMacs as you can see in this listing Mac Desktop Graphics Cards

The last NVIDIA MXM board Apple used was in the iLate 2009 21.5” iMac 3.33GHZ Core 2 Duo with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M I really don’t recommend going to these older versions of the board and using a newer NVIDIA is not wise as the driver Apple used is of this generation, so you won’t gain the features of the newer board (running in compatibility mode)

OK what to do?? I would stick with the AMD Radeon MXM boards Apple used for your series: Radeon HD6770M or Radeon HD6970M or Radeon HD6750M

Even still you need the correct version of the board as Apple uses custom firmware held in the GPU board. So unless you have the skills and tools to burn a EEROM, stick with the Apple versions of the boards
