Can I change my iMac's processor?

I have a Imac 21.5' with Intel Core i3 3.06 GHz and i'd like to change it to i5 or i7, it is possible?

The socket should be able to take the upgrade and I know with the previous series of processors the iMac was able self determine which processor it had in it as far as speed. I have not updated an i3 to an i5/7 but based on what has been the past for the intel iMacs it sounds plausible.

NOTE: the only ones we have seen were we needed to make a terminal entry to compensate was where putting in a core 2 duo in an iMac with an original core duo did not let us install Lion. It had to have a terminal entry before it would load Lion

Also this would blow any warranty on your computer including any future Apple service recalls.
