Home and back button not working

I just ordered a refurbished unlocked Google Pixel 3a off of Amazon, and when it arrived, the bottom half of the screen (the home and back button) where not working, but every time it was tapped the light would glow, I have also updated the phone numerous times, and power cycled it- is there anyway to fix this without expensive professional help or completely wiping the phone?
