"Searching" "Handset out of Range"

“Searching” appears continually with handset on or off the transmitter base. Push “Talk screen flashes “Connecting” for approx. 10 sec. then shows “Handset out of Range” for 30 sec. Enter a number and push “talk” screen goes directly to “Handset out of Range.”
