MacBook Pro 15" Retina 512 GB SSD (2013) to be used on Air 11" 2014

Do you know if I can use my Macbook Pro 15” retina 512 GB late 2013 in my Macbook Air 11” Early 2014? Are they compatible and if so is it a simple case of swapping them or should I give it to a pro as they have to do something with the software too? Thanks

Take the time to read this great guide The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs

It depends on which generation your MacBook Pro is: Gen2 Early 2013 or Gen3 Late 2013

I have a late generation 15' 2013 and an early generation 11' 2014

So the SSD is the same Generation! Plug and play from a hardware perspective! BUT! your version of macOS could be an issue are both using the same release? If they are no issues! If on the other hand they are not you can get into trouble with the Sierra or older macOS versions HFS+ file system Vs the newer APFS file system used in High Sierra and newer macOS's versions.

@danj Thank you.

@danj Is there a place you recommend to purchase the 1TB for the 15" Retina late 2013? I found Transcend on Amazon which is more expensive than the OWC.

by

@kkixi - I would only use a real Apple SSD, OWC or Transcend.

Don't forget to accept the answer - Thanks!
