Two different iPods show up in drives and cannot sync

So this is a weird bug. I have an old classic and ive been wrestling with it for years. But this one is new: I now have two separate hard drives when I plug in my ipod, one that says ‘dylan’s ipod’ one thats simply ‘ipod’ and when i try to sync ‘dylan’s ipod’ its stuck indefinitely on a loading screen.

Things ive tried:

Resetting the ipod and plugging back in - no effect

Going into disc mode - No effect

Restarting my computer - No Effect

Things I CANT try:

going into my ipod’s hard drive - The hard drive for ‘ipod’ appears to be empty, ‘Dylan’s Ipod’ is the one stuck indefinately on the loading screen. I cant even see how full it is.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Sounds like something might have been corrupted on the OS/Hard drive. If you don’t have anything precious on the device I would suggest to do a factory reset using iTunes.

  1. Open iTunes on the Mac or PC that you used to back up your device.
  2. Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable. If a message asks for your device passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen steps.
  3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes.
  4. Select Restore.
  5. Proceed with the prompts
  6. Keep your device connected after it restarts and wait for it to sync with your computer. You can disconnect after the sync finishes.

Here is the official guide from Apple to restore your device: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204184
