Why won't my phone recognize my sim card?

When I turn on the phone it asks for the sim card, but I've already inserted it. I tried using a different sim card and my phone didn't read the other one either. What else can I try?

Sometimes the pins in the phone (little gold prongs) get a little dirty. Try opening the phone to see the sim contacts and check for dirt/flattened/broken pins etc. If they are too flat you can try lifting them up (gently as they are fragile) with a small toothpick/tool. Then, you can try cleaning them with an electronics cleaner (something high in alcohol content so won't leave residue). Let us know if this helps

Thank You all very much. Your advice did in minutes what the carrier including, 7 customer service techs, 2 tech support supervisors, some having heavy accents that i had to keep saying "what" because of my lack of understanding their words. Calls transferred all around the world, including 3-4 dropped calls from South America, Timbucktoo, and i would sware at least 2 calls to Jurrasic Park! Each time repeating the whole situation till I got a sore throat. Let's not forget several family and friends giving their unrequested advice. Really just smarty know it alls, beating their chest saying they wouldn't put up with this c%%%p,never happen to them. Haha right! So thank you all for the very simple advice with remarkable, and quick results. Thank You, Angela Blake

thank you i will try it ,the phone is charging

by

What if the 2 of the gold prongs were pulled out?

What shall l do then?

by

Wow that was so helpful! I had the same problem and i was skeptical if just cleaning the sim would do the trick, but boy was i wrong.

by

Thank you so much one of my prongs were lower than the rest. I used a business card to gently lift it up. This gave the best pressure without harming the delicate piece. Bless you I finally can have a stable number for job apps again!

This can happen for many reasons and there are a few things you can try:

1)Go to settings>general> reset > reset network settings.

2) Use compressed air to clean out the SIM port.

3)Try another SIM card.

4) Open up your phone and lift the gold prongs so there is better contact.

5)Clean the gold prongs with rubbing alcohol.

6) Contact your phone carrier, it might be something on their end.

We're trying to get this sims card to work in a different phone and can't retieve my phone numbers or pictures, etc. What do we do now?

by

sure you can open the phone but the only easy access is to the battery. In the Samsung Galaxy s5 the mini sd card for additional storage is on top of the slot for the phone sim. It's covered by a flat metal sheet, and the pins can be seen, but not clearly enough to tell anything or even to correct them. There are no instructions for removing this cover. Web searches are all about opening the back of the phone cover.

by

I have a Samsung Galaxy S20. No way to access battery (been like this since the S8 I think...

There are three possibilities available.

1.Check your sim whether it's properly inserted or not

2.There may be a problem in your sim card so try another one.

3.Your mobile locked to particular network provider.

If your problem persists,Your mobile phone restricted by some network so try to unlock your mobile phone. You can unlock your mobile phone using network unlock code. It's the best way to unlock your phone. If you need an unlock code for your phone visit http://www.onlinegsmunlock.com/supported... my husband had this problem with his phone, it turned out to be because he had pushed the card in too far. He thought it was one of those ones with a return spring like a memory card. lol i pulled it out flush with the lip of the battery line, and it worked just fine. :D

I have the same problem with the sim card on tmobile with my galaxy note 4. The phone will tell me it can't detect the sim card and restart the phone, I'll have to do it two times to get it to see the card, probably getting a new sim card from your carrier will fix it, it's free if you're on the jump on the tmobile, I accidentally locked myself out of my sim card once by entering the pin wrong 3 times, they replaced it free.

According to other threads I've found the LG G3 particularly experiences this very issue which seems to be a manufacturing problem with the "seating" of the SIM card, but I have to say I'm about at my wits end with THIS PHONE!! I've already replaced the micro doc (charging port) on my dime (and NO, I'm not one to be rough on my phones and yank out the cord) and forgo the warranted NOT thinking clearly but wanting it fixed out of desperation, I sent it out thru Office Max, NOW THIS just started!! What gives??!

this is an old thread but i had googled my problem tonight when my wife's phone was giving her "sim card not found" error and boy was she freaking out

She explained that she had taken out her SD card, and somehow in doing so snagged the sim card with it, because they are right on top of each other, and both fell out, and when she put the sim back in, it gave her that error.

Perplexed, i watched a youtube video, read some forums, then i got to looking at her phone at the slot and noticed there's 4 little springs, and the 3rd one over wasnt quite propped up like the others, so she took a teeny tiny needle thing, and moved it up, we slid her sim back in, restarted the phone and lo and behold we were back in business! yay go me

So sometimes the simplest things....

My SIM at times would not be available. Tried cleaning it several times and checking the pins etc. Yesterday I could not get it recognised. I then wondered if the SIM was actually going in too far - it was. I lined (LG G3) the trailing edge level with the end of the slot - and lo and behold---joy joy!

For me the solution was to make my phone only use 3g, not 4g. Lucked into this solution, phone was crashing repeatedly if the SIM was inserted.

Go to the secret android network screen by dialing: *#*#4636#*#*

Then set the network connection to be wcdma only for 3g.

Hope this helps someone who had my problem.

I've been plagued by someone thinking they know more than any phone company personnel, etc and I have a Moto e5 cruise never had bit of problem till this person on other side of my bedroom wall decided to get into my phone (there is no such thing as hacking) Motorola tells me that people can delete every email you have ever had and this will disable your phone making it useless, or then they can put in their own info which in my case they did, charging up thousands but I was just a little guicker than they were and unfortunately for us as consumers it becomes a criminal activity and you have no control over an account that you can't use but have to pay on monthly or have it go against your credit while obtaining subpeona to get names, address etc of people that have charged up fortune on your account. Plz Beware

use the pin that came with the phone and find a small hole on the sides of your phone and insert the pin slightly harshly.
