will iFixit replacement battery be recognized by Mac

I am interested in buying a replacement battery for my 2018 MacBook Pro Touch Bar, but a repair shop where I live (not authorized by apple and selling Chinese batteries) is telling me my machine will not recognize their batteries and that my only option is to change the entire top case. I would only like to know if the replacement batteries sold by iFixit will show the same problem. I do not live in the US and would be taking some risk to ship the battery here without any opportunity to return.

thanks in advance

Boy! You got a great line thrown at you, trying to dazzle you by BS!!

Lets clarify things.... If the battery needs replacing then you can use the iFixit battery. There is no need to replace the full uppercase. The issue is people don’t bother following the guides to learn how to properly remove the battery as its glued in! So they go with the easier and much more expensive solution.

Now lets make sure your battery is the issue! To get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question I also recommend getting a USB-C power meter like USB-C Power Meter so you can monitor the charging of you battery and I also recommend installing this app TG Pro to monitor the systems thermals.

The battery was swollen and got removed. The shop got a new (of course not genuine batteries) and are telling me they get an error code when replacing it. So they threw their hands in the air and said they can't do anything about it. I wondering if I would get the same error if trying to install the iFixit battery. I am not super techie and don't know if they followed the right steps in removing, but this is where I am at. Any ideas.

@ermalcomo - What is the error??

by

Don't ok now exactly. Something to do with the fact of "calibrating" (term used by the guy) and the fact that apple requires the battery to be original

by

@ermalcomo - Your MacBook Pro does not require an 'Apple' battery, just one that meets the specs of what Apple uses. iFixit's battery are warranted for a full year from purchase.

I think they messed up! Instead of fessing up they want you to pay to fix their mistakes!

I would have them return the system to you in a 'working state' forget the calibration issue that's BS!

Unfortunately the businesses here are not as responsible as they should be. I have the machine back but without a battery now and I am left to do things my self. I even called the iFixit line after reading your answers last night for me ( and thank you very much for putting up with me by the way) and even the lady at the customer service told me that I would get the same error. Apparently it is an issue with machines after 2018. I am conflicted because I will have to arrange and bring the battery outside of the US (I live in Albania, Europe) and have no chances to send back for warranty or returns. That is why I need to make sure as much as possible that this will work.
