LCD replacement : which brand to choose?

Hi,

I have a mac book pro A1260 Core 2DUO 2.4 Ghz and my LCD is broken => I want to replace it.

I found on your site that if I have a screen CHIMEI N154C6-L02, I need to buy exactly the same screen.

As far as I understood, the only way to know which one I have is to take it apart from the laptop.

Unfortunatly, if I unmount it, my mac will be unusable until the new part comes (for the moment, I can use it with external screen) and I would like to avoid that (15 to 30 days).

Of course, I could remount it once I have the reply but I would multiply the risk of problems doing that.

So my question is the following : you say that only a chimei screen will be compatible with a chimei screen. But will a chimey screen be compatible with the other types of screens (samsung ..)

If yes, then I just have to buy a chimey to be sure to be compatible with everything.

If no, what is the most common type ? Chimei or non Chimei ?

By the way, what is the difference between both types ?

And let's imagine I buy a screen and I wait to receive it before unmounting the original one. The day I unmount the original one, I realize that I did not buy the good one, do you think the reseller will accept to take it back and to sell me another one instead (as long as I don't take it out of its packing of course).

In this case of course, I will have my laptop unusable for some delay but at least, I have a possibility to be fine at the first time

Thanks in advance for your replies and for your website that already helped me a lot with this problem

Regards

Antoine

To identify your LCD panel model: open your application Terminal located in Applications -> Utilities, copy this string:

ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

paste it in the Terminal window and press return.

Go to About this Mac under the Apple > more info > graphics and displays and see which screen it is.

UPDATE - here's one I learned from Sergio

To learn which LCD is installed in your laptop you need to run in terminal:

ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

Mine is LTN154BT, which is Samsung.

HI,

Thanks for your quick reply

1/ About my mac did not give me any information.

It just tells I have a color LCD screen. No name, no brand ...

2/ Terminal window gave me the following result

LP154WP2-TLA3

Color LCD

Doing a search on google tells me that it may be a philips screen. On the other hand, it may also be the generic name of the screen.

Anyway, does this mean that I can buy any screen brand (including philips) except Chimei or that I have to buy exclusively a Philips screen ?

Thanks again for your help
