Display is black (no picture), but backlight works

A few months ago, my mid 2010 15" macbook pro was in a bag which unfortunately fell off a table. I usually use the MBP with an external monitor, which works perfectly, so I never really noticed that something is wrong.

Last week I wanted to take the MBP with me, but right after turning it on I noticed that the screen stayed black. Waiting and wiggling didn't help either. The backlight works fine and I can even adjust the brightness. I just don't see a picture.

I've tried removing the bottom and checking the screen data cable connection (plugging out, plugging back in) with no result.

Any tips on what I could try? I, of course, would like to spend as little money as possible on buying extra parts, but there may be no way around that.

Thanks in advance, I'd really appreciate the help.

Cheers,

L.

I take it the unit still works with an external display?

Apple is aware of the problem on your machine, here's the article on it. I would call them and see if they have a fix for it yet or at least get on record with them that you do have this issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4086

If it's that, then why did just a day before the fall the display work perfectly? Maybe a coincidence?

Well Luis, which is it? Did you find this problem months ago when you dropped it or last week, you've stated both.

by

I'd say it happened after I dropped it. Can't say 100%, but I think that's more likely. I apologize for the vagueness :/

Bad Logic board ( motherboard ) or the inverter card sounds like, not going to be a cheap repair.

I take it you know nothing of repairing Macs as there is no inverter on this machine.
