Can anyone tell me how to replace the USB-C Boards for 2019 13" MBP?

Hi all — I’ve got 4 dead USB ports on my 2019 13” MacBook Pro (A1989); ordered 2 replacement boards from ifixit, but cannot find any videos here or anywhere online that show the replacement process.

Anyone ever done this?

I’m really in a bind because this is my work machine (self-employed) and my older 2012 MBP won’t run any of the newer software I use. I’d be deeply grateful for any and all advice…thanks in advance.

Did you loose all four ports at the same time (or in a short window of time)?

by

All four at the same time. Hot tea spilled on the counter. Picked it up immediately, didn't think any got in...but hours later after working on it for awhile I realized the charger wasn't charging. Tried it (and a portable HD) in all 4 ports, all dead.

I can see loosing one to two ports, loosing all four is telling me you have a bigger issue within the logic board its self.

But to answer your question we don’t have much for guides in the newer MacBook Pro series. To replace the Port assembly you need to first take the logic board out so you have room to access the port screws and room to slide the assembly out.

Thanks! This was the result of a tea spill, and from what I understand when one goes due to a short, they all short out. I worked for another 6 hours afterward with no issues, which is why I don't suspect a logic board problem. (I could be wrong, obviously)

Want to try the replacement and see what happens, shortest and least expensive route to getting back up and running...

@joe - I fear you did mess-up your power logic which serves the ports with your spilled tea. This is a deeper issue for sure.

Not the news I was hoping for ;-) I guess I'll try it and see what happens when the part arrives...is replacing that logic board difficult?

by

@joe - Not hard, just costly! Where are you located country and nearest city? Maybe we can aim you to someone who bought be able to fix your logic board.

I'm in the U.S., Baltimore, MD. In the suburbs but the city is 10 mins from me. REALLY appreciate any help you can give.
