Will a Display replacement fix this?

Hello,

A while ago I fell longboarding with my phone in my pocket. At first there was a hairline crack that went up and down the screen. Over time it appeared the crack was spreading and it became a back blob.

If I take my otterbox case off I can see what is on the screen where the black blob is. In light I can see the whole screen, it just looks like the backlight isn't working where the black blob is.

The front glass is fine, the only damage is to the internal display.

My question is what do I need to fix this, I'm not sure if it's a backlight problem or if it's a cracked lcd screen. Would a Display Assembly kit fix this, it appears to be the easiest way to fix my problem.

Is this on the digitizer or display? If it's on the digitizer, you can replace this part as a single piece on the 3GS. It isn't like the 4 where you buy the whole thing.

If you broke your display then you need the LCD. You can buy the unit as a whole, or just the panel. I would buy the unit at this point, since it costs about as much as a LCD only anyway.
