Vibrator squeeks but not really vibrates

When I move the switch from audible to vibrate the phone squeaks and vibrates slightly but not enough to notice unless i am holding it. Does the phone need a new vibrator?

sounds like the vibrate motor is broken - these are just tiny motors with a weighted offset cam on the shaft that causes the vibration when it spins - perhaps the cam has broken/fallen off? the slight vibration you feel is probably just the bare shaft spinning

the motor can be replaced, not sure if ifixit sells the motor but you can google it to find them if not available here.

Add electrical tape between the logic board and the screen!

I had a similar problem after installing a new vibrator motor from ifixit.com. The phone would vibrate without the screen installed, but with the screen installed, either a rattling squeak or no vibration. I suspect that over time, the phones tolerances were thrown off and the vibrator element was hitting the back of the screen. By stacking a few thicknesses of electrical tape on the logic board around the vibrator, I could snap the screen back in and have perfect functionality from the vibrator.
