Dead Battery or connector problem?

My MacBook Air turnes on only when I disconnect its battery and connects the ac adapter. I think the problem is not with the battery, but with the connector of the battery, because yesterday it wouldn't turn on as well, but when I hit it (nothing else worked) it did, and the battery was charging and it was working with or without the ac adapter. The problem first started after I disconnected the battery. I tried plugging the battery carefully again and again and still nothing.

I dont want orgering a new battery just to understand the problem is still there.

Any good ideas?

What's you date of purchase?

This is the original MacBook Air from 2008. Bought in the middle of 2008 I guess.

according to coconut- it seems my battery is fine- the current capacity is 4496 mAh out of 5090 design capacity. It is fully charged...

My serial number is- w881052vy51. This MBA is the one having:

Memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Processor 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Graphics Intel GMA X3100 144 MB

Whenever I forget plugging it to the AC and the battery runs out, I have to open the case, disconnect the battery, connecting it to the power (it turns on), then reconnecting the battery... hitting it does not work.

Anyone has any ideas on what could be the problem?

Some of these machines will not start until you have a 15-20% charge on your battery. I would suggest allowing it to charge up some or not letting the battery completely drain.

I don't think it's a battery issue. I have to go through the same process of opening the case, unpagging the batt etc, when I turn off the computer when the batt is fully charged. I can do restart on the other hand.
