MacBook turns on with a lit black screen, and no display,

Hello, I have this Macbook Pro 2017 13” that turns on to a lit black/very dark blue screen and it does not display anything, although I can hear sounds such as charger being plugged in and Voiceover being turned on/off. Here is a list of things I have tried:

  • Reset SMC/PRAM/NVRAM
  • Unplugged battery and left it unplugged overnight
  • Turning Macbook on with only the charger while battery is unplugged
  • Turning Macbook on with the flash storage removed
  • Using an Apple USB C to HDMI converter with an external display

The ONLY time I was able to get any display from the device was I somehow got to the reset password screen and it would show up on my external monitor. Is there anything else I can try or is the logic board shot? Thanks a lot!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

There is a backlight driver chip on the board that is likely water damaged. When this becomes damaged on the older models, you could test by shining a light through the apple logo and you would see display. Since the newer models use metal for the logo on the lid, this is not a viable option. My first place to look would be around this chip for corrosion. If there is none, I would replace the display.
