I opened an ipod the other day and early on I accidentally snapped off thin cable that connects to the hold switch.Is there any way to replace this piece? How? Does it require soldering? ps. its not like the cable is broken, its just disconnected from the hold switch thing.

The cable and the 'switch thing" are actually one unit. I doubt you will get it connected back to the switch, but not saying you can't. You probably will need a good stereo microscope and a very, very small soldering station. So, my suggestion would be that you take a look at the teardown to see how it connects to the logic board. The cable and the switch are available at places like this. I hope everything goes well, good luck.
