My screen does not illuminate correctly when opening

HI. I'm having issues when opening my computer. As i open the computer screen at certain angles it illuminates and at certain angles it does not. I often have to lightly wiggle the screen as it opens in order to get the screen to illuminate properly. While the screen is dark i can see my desktop ever so faintly. Would like to know the most likely cause of this issue, and what i have to replace and or look for when i open up my comp for repairs. I'm a novice at this at best so please be gentle lol and very descriptive if possible. Thanks in advance for the help you can provide.

Hi Matt and welcome to iFixit Answers.

Your description lead to an inverter cable issue. The inverter cable is connected to the MB logic board and carry power to the LCD display to lighten your display. The inverter cable goes from the logic board to the inverter board via the macbook left hinge where it can be damaged after a while showing the symptoms described in your question. First step is to lift up the macbook top case and check the cable connection to the logic board. If the connection is good then the connection to the inverter board should also be verified and the cable replaced if the two ends are well seated.

Replacing this cable is a difficult job for someone without experience repairing computers but it can be done if you're technically inclined.
