My Passport runs smoothly without clicking sound but can't be detected

Hello,

I have a WD My Passport 1TB which is a 2014 model. Up until 4 months ago, the drive worked perfectly and was detected every time I plugged it in to my two Windows computers. Lately, this hasn’t been the case. The drive spins up smoothly, no clicking noises or anything like that. But the computers don’t detect it. I have tried the following:

  1. Uninstalled USB drivers from device manager
  2. Opened the My Passport casing and tried cleaning off dust, didn’t find much.
  3. Tried multiple USB cables and ports
  4. Tried running virus checks
  5. Tried showing hidden drives and uninstalled them

Nothing so far. Could you please help me? I would really really appreciate any sort of tips or pointers or guidance related to this issue . I am really in need of the data in the drive!

If you have chance try with another caddy. Could be the board which connected with the HDD is got faulty. The light is coming on the drive?

@joxercfg thanks for responding! Yes, the light is coming. The drive runs. I did notice another thing. When I connect the drive, it spins normally. But I realize, comparing it to another drive, that is spins at a really high speed, although I am simply trying to estimate 'high speed' by listening to the sound. And another funny thing is...when I put the computer I connect it to on standby/sleep, the drive still keeps running and the blue light still stays on!

If you have chance try to get another caddy, hopefully that's the issue. Be careful, not to use that drive too much, because you have chance to corrupt the data. I hope that's gonna help you.

You can find the caddy's online, not an expensive stuff.

@joxercfg Thanks, Ervin Nemeth! I am definitely going to try to get another caddy. I have been doing some searching but just so that I don't end up buying the incorrect product, by caddy you basically mean the casing? or the casing along with the addition circuitry? Also I am guessing I will need the one that will properly fit the WD 1 TB my passport. I will let you know what I find and if that is what I should go for.
