Why won't my iPod restore?

My itunes keeps saying ipod will restore because files are being used by another application, but it wont tell me the application. Ipod will not let me delete or add any new songs.

This sounds more like an iTunes issue than the iPod. What OS are you using, which version iTunes do you have? Any recent updates to iTunes?

I've had this happen to my ipod 80gb classic and eventually found out the hard drive is faulty. I have followed all guidance to install, reinstall, restore and format the hard drive to no avail. The more I tried the processes the more the ipod drive filled up though on format it told me 74 gb free. Ipod showed me 0GB available. I can hear the drive clicking. Gonna let my hubby look at it now as he has fixed loads of different electronic items. Will update you later.

chris, try to place your iPod in disk mode and see if you can get it formatted. If you can not get it into disk mode or you can not format your drive, I would suggest a new HDD and cable. Good Luck
