Re-enabling the startup chime.

Yes - this is another of my rather picky issues.

I have a 2010 13” Unibody I’ve been using for quite a while, and something that’s been bothering me is its lack of a startup chime. I believe this is something that can be done using the terminal but everything I’ve found on the web is for the newer Macs that don’t have the chime enabled by default (StartupMute=%00) which obviously doesn’t work. I’ve also tried the mute trick (had no expectations and got nothing).

I had one time where I did an NVRAM reset on an iMac and the next thing I know the chime blasted at a rather high volume. Obviously I tried it. It didn’t work.

Does anyone know how I can get the chime back? Thanks.

Edit: Apparently StartupMute=%00 also works on older Macs but it still doesn’t work on mine.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Here’s a good YouTube Vid on enabling/disabling: How to Turn on the Mac Startup Sound - Krazy Ken's Tech Talk

Here’s some back history: Macintosh Startup Sound History - Bring Back the Bong! (RIP 1984-2016)

Enjoy!

That's the StartupMute=%00 solution. I already mentioned how it didn't work.

It works on my MacBook Pro's! What is your OS-X/macOS ? Are you using something old?
