Why does my MacBook screen not turn on?

It will have the boot up sound but it will not turn on the screen. I have tried restarting it in Safe mode or whatever and have system restored it but no luck. The screen still does not work. I found a hack on youtube where if I overheat the Mac then it tricks the graphics card into working again, and I have found that it does turn on my screen for it to work. Very temporarily though, and it does not last long. I am thinking this is a graphics card issue or something, I do not know and really have no clue how to fix this problem. If anyone could help you would save me a lot of money, thank you so much

Thomas, your issue may be related to a failing capacitor that is connected to the GPU vcore circuit on your laptop and not necessarily the graphics card. It is rare though not uncommon for the GPU to fail on this year and model. The 2011 was notorious for failing GPU issues. I would recommend NOT heating the GPU and instead send it to a qualified repair shop as the logic boards for this model are still pretty pricey. Just my two pennies.
