Very faint image on LCD, Works OK with External Monitor

my toshiba satellite 1200 S121 , boots fine but with dark display., I connect an external monitor and image works fine ., what is the problem., battery?,motherboard?,display wires?, bios battery., i can see images on LCD laptop display , but its to dark to work with it.

My Toshiba laptop powers up, but the screen is black.

Sounds like it is related to either a bad cable or display inverter.
