Gareth - I don't see any damaged components? I do see some staining on the logic board. Can you make a note in the pic on what component you are concerned with.

by

Hi , please check edit image, and what component is it? It directly placed next to the fan (2).

I cannot seem to diagnose what's wrong with my Mac. It used to abruptly shut off and then finally one day it won't come ON. If I connect the Magsafe no green light. But if I connect another different magsafe green light appears .

When I opened the laptop the only observable repair could have been for the IC. Attached zoom in image ( zoom in more and check ) Does the attached IC have anything to do between the charger & SMC ( symptoms: not booting up, blank screen, no charger light while battery disconnected)

OK, the two large blocks are Inductor coils. The solder joints are what I encounter as the yellow crust is just flux that is left on during the manufacturing process. They look just fine!

I think we need to start the proper diagnostic process.

Hi Dan,

Yes I've tried troubleshooting charger issues:

1. Tried my charger on another device works fine

2. Their charger on mine turns green but doesnt boot up!

( Hope this helps: my charger on my own device shows no color at all ! But after using a different charger and then connecting my charger turns green!)

My charger is official Apple product. Both ports are clean charger & Macbook.

Have disconnected the battery , pressed the power button and then connected charger still no start up chime, no boot up nothing!

Also some additional info : when my laptop was working few weeks back it used to turn off at random time intervals 15mins, 25 mins, 10 mins etc. The night before it went completely dead it was ON the longest for about 4 hours.

Thanks again Dan

Appreciate the assistance

@Gareth Almeida - Where you using the correct wattage charger?

by

Yes 45W for Macbook Air 1466. I feel my issue could be related to SMC based on the symptoms - not booting up, blank screen, power adaptor not turning green. Could you advise some troubleshooting for diagnosing SMC. Thanks

by

Yes you likely have a messed up SMC!

But either you or your friend has a knockoff charger as they should react the same! So its likely the root cause that damaged your system. I would get a newline and hope yours is the bad one not your friends.

The only other thing I can think of is the MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2013-2017) I/O Board MagSafe block is damaged enough that yours fails to make good contact with the charger.

Time to visit someone local who has the the deeper skills, tools and access to the needed components. Otherwise you'll need a new logic board MacBook Air 13" Early 2015 Logic Board Replacement
