How does the keyboard communicate with motherboard?

I'm just a pc tech. Can anyone tell me how in the world a mac book keyboard communicates with the motherboard? There's no cable connecting the two. Just a 10 pin connector which I'm assuming is for the trackpad. I'm amazed.

Thanks much

The keyboard communicates with the Logicboard through that same flex cable and small connector.

Most laptops, the Apple MacBook included have the keyboard and track pad piggy backed into a USB channel. They are actually USB devices. USB has +5v, ground, data+ and data- that is 4 wires per device. The keyboard and trackpad are separate devices so that accounts for 8 of the 10 pin connection. The other 2 are for the 3.3V and ground for the power button to work.
