What's the best way to clean "pocket crud" out of the AirPods case?

I love my AirPods, but it drives me crazy that it’s hard to clean the “pocket crud” out of the inside areas around the lip of the lid and case. Anybody got a sure fire method for cleaning the case?

Options

A Q-Tip with rubbing alcohol, you don’t need the alcohol to lightly clean it but it’s good practice . Do NOT substitute the alcohol for water.
