Hard Drive Controller repair

Hi,

Is replacing the Hard Drive controller on a MacBook Pro 2009 Unibody a DIY project. Can anyone shed some light on instructions on how to do it? I replaced cables and swapped hard drives on my poor MacBook and haven't had any luck getting passed the blinking ? folder.

Options

The controller is built into the logic board and is not a DIY project. Will the machine boot from an external or a system installation disk? After replacing the drive and the cable did you reset the PRAM? If not do so.
