Why is Disk Utility not able to see drive?

My MacBook does not recognize the drive after starting in recovery mode (CMD+R) and opening Disk Utility.

However if I boot a gparted live CD using a USB connection, I’m able to see the drive and format it. I formatted the drive to fat, fat32, HFS and HFS+ both in MS-DOS and Apple partition table, but in Disk Utility it’s still not abler to see the drive.

Why is Disk Utility not able to see it?
