Why can't I install OS X 10.4 on this laptop?

Hello all.

I have the install disks for OS X version 10.4.2 that came with an iBook G4 14” 1.4GHz laptop. That laptop has taken a dive. I recently got an iBook G4 14” 933MHz that came with OS X version 10.3. When I try to install the 10.4.2 version I get a message saying “unable to install this software” or something of the like. I checked the specs to run 10.4 and it should work on this older iBook.

Why is it not working? Is it because the install disks for 10.4 from my old laptop are only for that specific laptop and that is why it wont work on this other laptop?

I am trying to install the 10.4 OVER the 10.3 could this be the problem? Should I wipe the HD clean then run the 10.4?

Please help me understand

If you used the install disks that came with the first machine amd tried using them on a different one, it won't work. I had this issue with my imac when I only had mac mini disks. You need to get a retail copy of 10.4.

Get an original system installation disk from Apple at $15. Have your serial number ready and credit card when you call them up.
