A few questions about disabling sound.

Hello :)

I just disassembled my Android Galaxy S in attempt to create something like the iPhones physical sound on\off switch. This is how the unplugged speaker looks like:

So far I have learned the speaker is connected directly to the phone like shown in this picture with a Flexible Ribbon Cable (The bump in the green zone indicates the ribbon that's popping out of the speaker. that goes right into the blue "receiver"). What I want to do is "plant" a micro-switch between the phone and the speaker.

My questions are: where can I get this kind of Flex Ribbon Cable? I found this site which sells the same kind of speaker.

Do you know of any microswitch that fits this purpose?

Thanks and have a pleasant day.

what do you mean? isn't some kind of electronic "connector" that connects two of these wires? that way I can connect the speaker to a microswitch and the switch to the phone terminal. (anyway, the cables width is about ~2mm, so soldering is not really an option..)

You could try separating one of the connector pins from the board while heating it with a soldering iron and liftig it with a thin metal blade. then solder a wire on both the connector pin and the pad on the pcb. Isolate with office tape or glue. As space in this area is quite tight you may have trouble to do so unless you're a well trained professional in SMD soldering.

a better option might be an option/app that mutes your phone when certain conditions are met. This incudes date/time, proximity sensor value, ...
