Capture card instead of blade ssd. Is this possible?

hey guys, i want to try something a little bit bananas so bare with me, will you?

I want to get a 2019 21’5 imac that has both sata and blade ssd - probably the lowest spec Radeon Pro 560X one and do this mods:

  • upgrade ram to 32
  • upgrade cpu to i7 9th generation ( which one should i choose )
  • upgrade the sata ssd to 1TB
  • get rid of the blade ssd and put instead a magewell eco capture quad sdi m.2 capture card instead - will this be possible? i can’t figure out if is the same connector or if this is gonna work

Apples blade SSD socket is not M.2 compliant, so your card won’t work without an adapter. Then to add to it the systems firmware is expecting a SSD not something else so you would need to dig into the firmware (are you a coder?)

Then lets say you got that far. You still need to mount the units outputs (4 contacts on left?) You also won’t be able to get to the switch block once you put things back together. Now the software side the needed driver and then the app.

There are easier ways which you can do externally.
