What is the best way to fix a scratch on an LCD screen?

I would like to know about a scratch I have on my imac 27 inch LCD screen. It's at the Apple repair centre in Berlin and was dispatched there from Hamburg. Here is the photo they sent me.

Before I took it to the apple store in Hamburg i turned it on to back my files up and this is how it looked.

And when it was switched on,

As you can see it's hard to make out the cracked glass, so i was wondering if the scratch on the LCD would be visible when on. I know 100% that i could not see any problem with the LCD screen and I'm thinking when it was dispatched to Berlin from Hamburg the cracked glass could have marked the LCD panel.

What are your ideas on this and would the scratch be noticeable?

Did you have shipping insurance? Sounds like this happened in transit.

I think you can replace only the glass plate that covers the LCD panel. You should call Apple to know if the part is available.

I have found a compound named Autosol you can purchase that will remove scratches from almost all metals and plastics. I use this to remove the scratches from any surface. Plastic automobile headlight covers being one along with iPod, cell phones, handheld video games etc. I use a Dremel tool w/the cloth polishing wheel. You can do it by hand with a soft cloth also. I have tried all brands of polish and this is the best. If you cannot find it, I buy mine from

www.eastwood.com a supplier of auto restoration products. I do not work for them. Joe
