Only works when plugged in, display scrolls, listening works fine

30 gig video 5th generation ipod

- The ipod only works when connected to the wall charger (that I bought from Apple), it shuts down as soon as I unplug it, even after attempting to recharge it for several hours.

- When using it (powered using the wall charger that is), I can still listen to music no problem, but the display on the screen scrolls slowly, and wraps around.

Note: I tried to replace the battery, but nothing changed. However it was a cheapo I bought off ebay.

Try replacing the battery again with a nice one from iFixit.

Well, if I'm asking here, it's because I want to avoid experimenting and unecessary expenses...
