Power button not working.. Bad logic board?

My mac will no longer power on after cleaning the outside with a MagicEraser. After cleaning it only powered on once, looked for a network drive (?), then proceeded to open up multiple finder windows. The rapidly opening windows caused me to shut it down by holding in the power button. Now it will not turn on. This is what I've been experiencing:

-I've discovered that the finder windows opening up is caused by a deleted or misplaced desktop background picture... no big deal.

-Prior to cleaning I was having issues with my trackpad responding and some over heating.

-The battery is fully charged, AC adapter works great.

-Tried the SMC reset by holding in the power button for 5 seconds with the battery out... did not fix the problem

-Apple suggested that it might be a problem with the logic board and would like lots of money from me to repair it.

-I have the 13" macbook 2.4ghz early 2008 white model

-It is at the Apple repair place waiting for me to decide if I would like to spend $750 for repairs or not... they discovered "liquid damage"

Do you think this may be a problem with the logic board, top case, or anything else? Any input before I spend lots of money would be greatly appreciated. :-)

Everymac has this machine retailing for $625 - $750. This does not sound like an Apple outlet store. This sounds like an independent place or a AASP. Even if you sprayed the cleaner directly on the board, I would bet it only got the top case with the keyboard and trackpad. Get it back and try hooking up an external keyboard. I hope you wrote down your serial number to make sure the logic board you get back is the logic board you went in with.

Thanks for the quick response! The repair was through the Apple store who sent it out to one of their certified places I'm pretty sure. Apparently they do almost a complete rebuild of the hardware. Anyways, it is placed on hold (since they found liquid damage and wanted to charge me more than the flat rate quote) so everything should be as it was. I'm not sure how an external keyboard would help me power it on though? Doesn't the power have to be on for any USB device to work?

It's just to much money for a repair. Was it working before you cleaned it. Also a Apple store sending it off doesn't sound right to me. If nothing else sell it on eBay for $250, then take the $750 you were going to spend and get a brand new one.
