"Service Battery" Prompt On New Battery

Block Image

I purchased a battery here on iFixit in January 2019 and have been getting the “Service Battery” alert since January 2020. I have tried removing and re-attaching the battery (to ensure it wasn’t loose) and I’ve tried resetting the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM to no avail.

The cycle count is at 50, is there anything else I should try before a) taking this in to an Apple store when that becomes possible again or b) giving in to the fact that I got a dud battery? Thanks in advance for any advice!

If you take it to apple and mentioned you replaced the battery, they’re going to blame you or ifixit’s battery and force you to either replace it or pay their outrageous prices to repair it. Odds are, you just have a defective battery. Get in touch with ifixit and they should be able to warranty it. Or the machine may see it as a non-genuine apple battery. If it’s working as it should and holding a charge, you really don’t have much to worry about other than service battery. It’s like using a third party ink cartridge in your printer. It may tell you over and over that it’s not a genuine cartridge, but it’ll work just fine.
