My PlayStation 4 for the last month or so has been not wanting to turn on but when it does it turns off when I’m playing a game, is there a reason why?

@dlo98 …sounds like an overheating issue. when it turns of, does it beep or show a red light? if so, its recognizing overheating. if not, it still sounds like a component heating up and shorting the system out. can do some troubleshooting here:
this is a teardown of the system. follow this until you have access to the fan and housing. (and the apu as for the next step) make sure to clear any debris and clogs.
next clean and replace thermal compound. follow this guide here (applies to most systems. be sure to only apply compound where compound already exists):
if it is due to components heating up and shorting, the apu is usually the culprit. follow this guide to fix:

these solutions should clear this issue up, in the case it doesnt…post back for further assistance.

could be related to the shorted component, if the unit is completely dead with no signs of life, typically would indicate a power supply issue. if the unit is shuting down without giving you the indications of overheating...id say this is the cause of both issues. if it is giving you indications of over heating, i.e. red flash, threes beeps, screen saying unit has overheated, it would be in conjunction. at this point with the new information, id start troubleshooting the power supply. use the teardown to get to the power supply, then open it up and look for any signs of failed components. bulged capacitors, burnt components....yada yada. while you have the device apart, still wouldnt hurt to change the thermal compound and clean the fan and housing.
