iPod classic cylindrical redundancy check

Tried restoring ipod classic, in both restore mode and disk mode ipod freezes on do not disconnect screen and itunes recognizes it, prepares for restore, and then ipod disconnects itself from computer. Computer recognizes "apple ipod" drive D:\ but the volume cannot be populated. tried right clicking file folder and formatting without success. Tried fdisk, got error "cylindrical redundancy check". Even tried active killdisk and got "device not ready". I also ran a test on the hard drive which did not report any bad sectors. Any suggestions?

My suggestion at this time would be to remove the drive and check it separate from the computer. You can do this by using a USB-Zif adapter. It does sounds like a bad hard drive or hard drive cable to me.

When a storage device fails its CRC check, the drive is most likely failing... See if you can test the drive, or you should get another one (HDD, that is)
