Now What? MPB Won't Turn On (despite SMC reset)

I’m trying to troubleshoot a 2017 MacBook Pro (Model A1708) that won’t power on. It belongs to a young friend who’s a college student. She assures me that it hasn’t been dropped nor had any water damage.

So far I’ve tried:

  • charging the device using a different charging cable (that works on other MBPs) by both of the MBP’s ports, and;
  • resetting the SMC.

The machine still doesn’t startup. I don’t hear any sound or feel any vibration that suggests that the machine is doing anything when I try to start it up.

Suggestions?

Options

You’ll need to see if the system is even charging. You’ll need to get a USB-C power meter USB-C Tester DC Digital Voltmeter placed inline with your power adapter and the system.

You might want to inspect the battery to see if it has swelled taking the bottom cover off.
