Charging problems out of ordinary.

Just recently, my iPhone 7 Plus has been giving me fits with charging. At first I assumed it was a bad cord, but I have bought several new ones and that is not the issue. When I plug the charger into my phone, it will charge if it sits still in one place, and sometimes not even then. For the most part, it rapidly charges and uncharges. I have cleaned the charge port with a toothpick, toothbrush, and napkin even. Is this a bad charge port problem? I’m confused, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My wife's iPhone 6S has been having some weird power problems too. It ate a battery the day before Christmas, so we got that replaced using the insurance that she has on it. Since then it's been running really hot and discharging the battery quickly if it in unplugged. When it's plugged in, it stays charged and the temps are OK. I called Verizon last week and they are sending out a replacement phone.

First you need to install a new battery then dock connector. This will rule out parts. A phone that is charging and discharging fast is usually caused by a bad battery. Have a look with it connected to a PC with 3uTools installed and see what the battery health is.

Good Evening,

A good thing to do first is to use compressed air on the charging port to clear out the dust particles out more effectively. I would hesitate to use the toothpick you used to clean it again as if you poke around too harshly or forcefully you can actually damage the charging pins and cause more issues.

If it is sensitive to the position it is being charged in, it sounds more like a bad charging port or a dirt/lint issue. But otherwise, you can try and see what the battery health is at and see if it needs to be replaced. I would try the compressed air before anything else because the simplest solutions could avoid opening the phone and replacing a part that didn’t need to be replaced. If the cleaning and battery replacement just aren’t cutting it, then you may need to replace the charging port.
