Why will one dvd not play sound?

I have a dvd that will not play any sound. It is a homemade video of my wedding. I realize it may be an issue with the disc but for sentimental reasons I am hoping it isn't!

The video portion of the dvd plays fine. I have a Panasonic plasma TC P50V10 and a Panasonic blu-ray disc player. They both work fine. But the DVD doesn't play any sound. I've tried advanced audio options but no luck.

When I press audio on the dvd remote I see the message “soundtrack 1* digital 2/0 ch".

The tv and dvd player used to be hooked up to a 5.1 surround sound system but now it isn't. I have an old fashioned set up now and play sound through the tv. I have a tv antenna, the dvd player and a roku hooked up to the tv and that's it..

Is there any chance that I need some sort of adapter to read the sound on this specific disc?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Answer this question I have this problem too

My son received several DVDs for Christmas, but only one DVD does not have sound. It has picture. All of the other DVDs he received operate correctly with picture and sound.

Hi @sunshinedifi ,

What is the model number of the Blu Ray player?

It is only the one dvd disc that is having this problem, is this correct? If so what type of disc is it DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW etc? Do you have other dvd discs of the same type and do they work OK?

Did the dvd disc work in the dvd player before or was it in a different dvd player when it worked?

Assume that by “I've tried advanced audio options …..” that you meant the Advanced audio options in the TV i.e. HDMI 1, 2, 3 or 4 IN depending on the input and that the setting was for TV speakers, is this correct?

Did you click on the appropriate HDMI setting in the Advanced audio settings and ensure that it is set to digital?

If still no good, if possible try connecting the dvd player to the TV using a Component video or Composite video connection and check if the audio works when using this in case it is a HDMI problem either in the player, the cord or the TV. Don’t forget to change the advanced audio input to Component 1 or Component 2 if Component connection used or Video 1 or Video 2 if Composite connection is used.

Here’s the connections on the TV which may help.

Hi @dlks2012

Was the non working dvd a "commercially made" one or a "home made” one?

If commercially made is it the same "brand" as all the others or a different one.

If home made do you know what type of dvd disc it is e.g. DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD-DL etc?

If possible try playing it in another dvd player to see if it works OK there or not.

Try cleaning the disc to see if this resolves the problem.

If it has been cleaned and also doesn’t work in another player then it may be that it is just a faulty dvd. If possible return it for a refund or replacement

Maybe you can try to play your DVD disc on a computer?

1. Insert your DVD disc with the disc drive.

2.Play the DVD disc with a DVD player software. There are many out the market you can choose from like VLC media player, 5KPlayer, PotPlayer, Windows Media Player, etc.

If it works, then your DVD disc is in good condition. If it still doesn’t work, maybe there is something wrong with your TV and DVD player.
